EEND 681 Module 8 Discussion
Hello Class,
For this Module we were to reflect on the semester and discuss our opinion on what are the most important criteria to consider when managing educational technology services. We have learned a lot this year on a topic I really never considered before, the administration and IT side of technology in the classroom. The following is my ranking of the top 3 criteria to consider when managing educational technology.
Successes:
When ever you have an end goal in mind with anything in life, I think it is critical to look at what will be accomplished and how will that strengthen you or the program involved. Also, I think it is important to look at what went well when reviewing goals in life as well. That is why I chose SUCCESSES as my number one criteria for managing educational technology. Not just as a review, but also as a look into the future. What successes do I see the students, teachers, administrators, and community having by implementing this technology into our school or specific curriculum. I think keeping the end goal in mind is very important.
Challenges:
At the opporsite end of the spectrum, but maybe equally as important, is what CHALLENGES will you face by implementing this technology in the classroom. This is also important because if you don't prepare for the challenges before they happen, you are doomed before you begin. As a "manager" you need to think about what challenges you may face before the technology is implemented. These challenges could include: diversification, different learning styles, cost, technology gap, teacher skill level, authenticity, validity, to name a few. By keeping these challenges in mind and addressing them before they arise, you have a better chance of obtaining the first goal, success.
Priorities:
Sadly, PRIORITY, is a consideration that really does have to be kept in mind when managing technology for a district or school. Without a doubt, their will be limited funds or at the least a budget that will need to be followed for the districts technology. Because of this your ability to prioritize what technology is most advantages to your students and staff is a key attribute of a good manager. It would be great if we could implement whatever technology was available, but decisions will ultimately have to be made on what is best for the district or school.
Thank you,
Jim Nielsen
